The descent from Capuliyoc to Playa Rosalinas takes about 3 to 3.5 hours. The trail is rocky and dry. You will walk among trees and small forest areas until reaching the bottom of the canyon: the Apurímac Canyon. Here you will rest and have lunch.
After that, the uphill hike begins. You will climb to the campsite in Santa Rosa. This part also takes around 3 hours. Walk slowly because heat and weather will be challenging. You will see beautiful river views and small local shops along the way.
When you arrive in Santa Rosa, you will camp in the mountains and finish this tough first day.

Today is our longest day. In the morning, you wake up with coffee in the mountains and start the journey to our next destination: Aguas Calientes.
You slowly climb towards Yanama, leaving the dry desert area and entering the cloud forest. When you arrive in Yanama, you will have lunch before continuing.
In the afternoon, continue through the cloud forest and take transportation passing Collpapampa until you reach the area near Hidroelectrica. From here, you take a train to Aguas Calientes, the gateway town to Machu Picchu. Overnight in hotel and prepare for the visit next day.

This is the day you have been waiting for. After an early breakfast, take one of the first buses to Machu Picchu to see the sunrise over the citadel. It is an unforgettable experience.
